Sarah Plain and Tall

From Newbery-award winning author Patricia MacLachlan Sarah, Plain and Tall, has captured numerous awards and honors, among them the 1985 Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction for Children, the 1986 Christopher Award, the 1986 Jefferson Cup Award of the Virginia Library Association, and the 1985 Golden Kite Award for fiction.

One of our favorite romances came to television in
1990. Sarah Plain & Tall was brought out the best of a romance
novel to the screen. With great performances by Glen Close and
Christopher Walken.

Sarah, Plain and Tall (1990)
Answering an advertisement for a "mail-order bride," Sarah
Wheaton travels from Maine to the prairies of Kansas in the
hopes of making a life for herself. Not only does Sarah take to
the duties of caring for the two motherless Witting children
with liveliness and compassion, she teaches them and their
father that life and love do go on. Starring five-time Oscar
nominee Glenn Close and Christopher Walken.

Skylark - The Sequel to Sarah, Plain and Tall (1992)
It is 1912, two years after Sarah joined Jacob Witting and
his two children as a mail-order bride. When drought and fire
threaten their Kansas home, and a separation tests the family's
strength, the Wittings learn that home is not four walls or a
stretch of land, but a place in the heart. Glenn Close and
Christopher Walken return as Sarah and Jacob Witting in this
endearing story of love, sacrifice and family.

Sarah Plain & Tall:Winters End (1999)
The third and final installment of the Sarah, Plain and Tall
trilogy, Winter's End is a touching film that teaches us all
the value of family. Jack Palance joins Christopher Walken and
Glenn Close as the father Jacob Witting (Walken) chose to
forget. Can Jacob forgive his father for abandoning him so many
years ago? Once again, the Wittings must endure a trial that
only the love of family will enable them to endure.
