Fruit Smoothie

Yields: about 1 quart, 4 to 6 sevings

1 package (10 ounces) frozen strawberries in syrup
1 banana, peeled
2 cups orange juice
2 tablespoons honey
2 cups ice

In a blender, combine all the ingredients except the ice; blend on medium speed until smooth. Add the ice and blend until slushy. Pour into glasses and serve. Options: It's easy to make this drink more fancy - just garnish each glass with a fresh strawberry and a slice of orange. If you prefer other flavors, make it your own by using your favorite combination of frozen and fresh fruit.

Blueberry Orange Smoothie

Makes 3 1/2 cups or 4 servings

12 oz. un-thawed blueberries or
2 1/2 cups fresh blueberries
8 oz. vanilla low fat yogurt
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Whirl all ingredients together in a blender until smooth. Serve immediately.

Melon Smoothie

Makes 6 servings

6 cups honeydew or cantaloupe, cut into 1-inch chunks
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup canned peach or pear nectar (available in supermarkets)
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1 teaspoon lime juice
1/2 teaspoon lime zest

Place the melon chunks in a plastic bag and put in the freezer overnight or at least a few hours before making the drinks. (The frozen melon will do the work of ice cubes and make the smoothies thick and frothy.) In two batches, puree all the ingredients in a blender. Serve.
